Modeled by Jean Patchett, 1950
Fish scales are beautiful, unique to fish and mermaids. At first I thought this lovely woman was a bride, but then realized she was a solitary soul, waiting to get into the kitchen so she could roast a big seabass stuffed with branches of wild fennel.
Oooh! I love this fish dress.who did it?
Liti, I can’t say for certain. One site attributed it to Dior, but it seems unlikely since I couldn’t find any other references to it. It’s a photo from American Vogue 1950. Strange there’s no designer credit-just the model and the photographer. Amazing dress though. I’m still working on tracking the down its maker.
i’m a good seamstress & i’ve done a lot of sewing in my time…the dress is exquisite! the work that was put into it would have amounted to hundreds of hours. look at that tiny waistline!…she probably had a hearty lunch of a couple of poppy seeds, a spinach leaf, & 1 grape for dessert before the shoot. poverina!
